A
tandoor is a specially designed clay oven, similar in shape to a
Greek vase. It stands about one meter in height. The bottom part of the tandoor
is filled with stones. Gas fire then heats the stones of the tandoor and
the oven itself up to 300°C. Meat of different
kinds are placed on long skewers and baked in the tandoor. Bread is also
baked on the walls of this oven.
In the past, a
tandoor
was used in India in the kitchen of the Maharaja (king of the
kings). Later on, the aristocrats learned to use it as well.
